Dear Scratch My Belly Friends,
At Scratch My Belly (SMB) Dog Rescue, our mission is more than a cause — it’s a calling, born from lived experience, genuine passion, and an unwavering belief that every dog deserves a second chance.
After years of volunteering in high-kill shelters and fostering for various rescues, I founded SMB in 2013 to save dogs from overcrowded shelters and the streets of Mexico — regardless of breed, age, or medical condition — as long as we can give them the care and dignity they deserve.
We don’t believe in quick fixes. We believe in perfect forever homes. Each of our adoptable dogs is matched with care, patience, and a deep understanding of their needs to ensure they become beloved family members, not just pets.
This is heart work — but it’s also strategic. Behind every dog adoption is a dedicated SMB team member coordinating transportation, veterinary care, behavioral support, foster placement, and ongoing follow-up. As a nonprofit dog rescue, we use every donation wisely, and when we’re unable to step in directly, we connect dogs in need with trusted rescue partners to ensure no life is left behind.
My personal journey began in Brazil and expanded across countries and continents — from caring for dogs and cats to pigs, rabbits, birds, and even an eagle in Nigeria. After losing my mother unexpectedly, animal rescue became my healing. It gave me purpose and a legacy of love to carry forward.
And yes — I’m totally obsessed. My camera roll is overflowing with first kisses, new beds, and joyful moments when our rescue dogs realize they are finally safe.
If you’re ready to make a difference, we invite you to explore our adoptable dogs, become a foster, or support our mission through a donation at https://www.scratchmybelly.org/donate.
Let’s find forever — together.
With gratitude,
Frederica Ginsburg
